The UAE is increasingly pet-friendly, but the import process is tightly regulated by the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (MOCCAE). All pets must enter the country as "manifested cargo" - they cannot travel in the cabin on commercial flights into the UAE.
The Import Requirements
Banned Dog Breeds
The UAE has a strict list of breeds that are prohibited from entry. If your dog is a mix of one of these, you may face rejection.
Pet-Friendly Areas in Dubai
Not all Dubai neighbourhoods are created equal for pet owners. Some have great parks, while others restrict dogs in communal spaces.
Top Tier (Highly Recommended)
- Jumeirah Village Circle (JVC): Abundant parks and walking paths.
- The Greens & Views: Features a dedicated fenced dog park.
- Dubai Hills Estate: Large open spaces and pet-friendly cafes.
- Victory Heights: Exceptional for larger dogs who need space.
Restricted (Proceed with Caution)
- Dubai Marina: High density; dogs often restricted on the Promenade.
- Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR): Limited green space for exercise.
- Downtown Dubai: Beautiful, but strictly enforced leash/access rules in parks.
Estimated Costs
Pet laws and airline regulations change frequently. We strongly recommend using a professional pet relocation agent like DKC (Dubai Kennels & Cattery) or Snoopy Pets to manage the logistics.
